Legal Protection for Accusers

It is extremely rare that a student brings a civil action against an employee who reports the student for academic dishonesty.

In such a case, the state will provide for the defense of the employee if he or she reported the dishonesty within the scope of employment and if he or she properly followed procedures specified by the Academic Judiciary, the University, and all appropriate laws. The full text of the Public Officers Law, Section 17, is available from the University Counsel at 632-6110.
